Still curious on how open data can solve local problems? AIDS.gov is using open data (service provider names, phone numbers, locations, etc.) to populate their HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Services Locator. With this Locator, users can enter their ZIP codes and be linked to nearby HIV testing sites, housing providers, health centers, and other HIV/AIDS service providers. By making data more open and accessible we can use available information to reduce HIV transmission and better support people living with HIV/AIDS in their communities.

If you’re interested in checking out the locator or in reading more about open data and how it can help in our national response to HIV/AIDS, check out the article: http://blog.aids.gov/2013/05/white-house-issues-executive-order-on-open-data.html
