Mission: Create a physical location producing hard material connecting fresh food resources with the information and infrastructure provided by partners and participants.
As evidenced at the panel discussion (7/18) on this topic there is not a ton of info in a single space on the people targeted (e.g. number of SROs) let alone the services available to them. If they do find a helpful website (even the SF gov ones) they can become outdated as things change very quickly in this city. This is a transient, diverse, low-income and low-tech audience which IT firms don't usually focus on when creating useful services. Even the census has a notoriously difficult time collecting its simple data from SROs. It will be important that a tool can be used to create hard copies of informational material (for a low tech audience) &/or engage with nearby resources (like the Main Library) to integrate their resources. Have a way for interested Non-profits and food pantries to register and post information on current resources and news. Develop a relationship with interested SROs and other primarily low income NGOs to gauge exactly what their needs and current resources are. I do not possess a penchant for coining snappy phrases so I'll end focusing the common accounting adage "what gets measured gets managed." Lets enlist high-tech partners from the community to create a way for people not so lucky to own an iPhone to still be conne use todays information infrastructure to find a healthy meal in SF. Too many people are spending too much time finding resources that are available to them because of their inaccess/lack of training with existing technology. With the resources and information already in place there great strides that can be made if the will is there. The main goal of this tool should be to generate data from the end users interested in accessing fresh food and connect them with businesses and services accessable to them
