Modify The SF Building Code
New Visions Of Living Space

Develop new criteria for addition to the Building Code; that all accommodations provide the living quarters with sufficient provision to safely prepare hot meals and adequate secure food storage facilities. The accommodations (mostly SROs) would be visited by the Building Inspection Department, who, through the code, can impose penalties and force compliance. Landlords would be free to decide their method of compliance, which would depend on the building construction. The downside of this development would be an increased pressure on rent levels.

This project is made possible by the City and County of San Francisco, SPUR, the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services and the Department of Technology
