Redesign SROs to Accommodate Better Living
Loft Bed
IMAGE
1

It's clear from Image 6 (Aarti Hotel) & Image 8 (Civic Center Residence) that SROs are poorly designed. They need to be better designed to maximize space & enable better living.

The beds should allow for maximum space optimization which would mean converting beds into loft beds (with desk, drawers, shelves etc. underneath the bed) [e.g. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UCIhEaALUNI/TdGCYIuaKRI/AAAAAAAABOI/Sj_rIsGA0Kk/s320/bunk+bed+3.png] or converting beds to trundle beds that slide underneath kitchen islands that house drawers, minifridge & a kitchenette. This way the space that would normally just store the bed would also be storing the desk, closet, etc. that would normally take up space in the room.

With the space that is then freed up by the bed conversion shelves would be put into the room to house a hydroponic vegetable garden that uses LED lights to grow. (e.g. http://www.terraspheresystems.com/index.php/technology-overview). This would allow residents to grow healthy food and have kitchenettes to cook them in.

Residents could each grow different crops and trade them (either individually or at a market). Classes & demos could be held to teach them healthy cooking techniques & recipes.
