Review The SRO Building Electrical Supply System
The Building Isn't Complete Until It Has Safe Electricity

One of the reasons that SROs don't have much cooking equipment, beside the lack of physical space, is that the devices take too much electrical load that will "burn up" the electrical cables or short out the building electrical supply. Property Managers do not allow "hot plates" or ovens; devices that create the heat necessary in cooking meals. It seems that many buildings could be upgraded with new electrical systems that meet electrical standards and fire codes. Property Managers don't want to know; they are against change; they are against doing any work; and it would cost them money. However, to upgrade the electrical system would offer more options for the use of electricity. I think that we would find that many buildings do not meet the safety and electric use requirements of the present era.

This project is made possible by the City and County of San Francisco, SPUR, the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services and the Department of Technology
