The first line of defense against illness is a healthy immune system. Physical activity, especially aerobic exercises, strengthens the immune system and produces a host of other beneficial effects on the body and the mind. Many common illnesses and injuries can be cured or rehabilitated with proper conditioning and nutrition.I cannot honestly claim I look forward to working out; but I always feel like a million dollars when I'm done.

The San Francisco Sports Fitness and Recreation Center will be a state-of-the art recreational facility for the residents of the City and County of San Francisco. The facility will feature state of the art strength and conditioning equipment, yoga and aerobic/dance studios, Olympic-size swimming pool, Olympic-size children's pool, badminton, volleyball, handball, tennis, and basketball courts, a table-tennis dojo, and something like a huge sand-box where children can run around until they fall asleep from physical exhaustion. There will be sports medicine specialists, nutritionists, and certified fitness trainers on the premises to answer questions and assist with individualizing fitness programs. There will be free first-aid, CPR, and lifesaving classes. Physical education classes would include anatomy and physiology, as well as Chinese and Ayurvedic techniques.

This facility will give preference to residents who do not usually have access to recreational or fitness facilities. This includes children, seniors, and people with disabilities. It should be open as early and as late as possible in order to offer access to the most people possible; i.e. actually give people something else to do. Residents with incomes over a certain amount will pay a nominal yearly fee (children under 18 free). Visitors to the City will pay visitor rates.
