It's a very complex challenge that affects so many of us in San Francisco in a variety of ways. (Do I really need to outline them all?) I don't believe there is a simple solution - but my hope is that you'll contribute some ideas to what I consider San Francisco's greatest challenge. I'm one of those who believe building more housing is key to bringing down the cost of housing for us all. At a time when interest rates are incredibly low, jobs are in great need, and the rental and real estate markets are still on the rise - San Francisco should be be building more homes for all income levels (for both renters and owners). This makes mobility possible for many of us and opens up housing opportunities on all levels. I think that almost every neighborhood should have a shelter for those who need it until more permanent homes are found. I don't know if this should be the City's responsibility but perhaps the City could provide neighborhood groups/associations help with organizing and establishing shelters in their communities.
