Cohesion!
We won "best neighborhood" on Curbed.com blog

In the background of the apparent anarchy of the Lower Haight, there is a core group of neighbors and merchants who stay aware of what's going on, and relay information to a neighborhood list serve and Andrew Dudley's Haighteration blog, our district supervisors.
Neighbors discuss crime hotspots, new shops, meetings, events, problems and issues, fundraisers, project proposals, giveaways, etc.

Besides the obvious benefits of the neighborhood: racial and economic diversity, great cafes, good food, fun bars, interesting shops, central location, proximity to parks, access to transit, etc., there is the security of "knowing your neighbors", even if you haven't met them.
