In the same thread as previous ideas, I think having native plants along the routes would help people find their way and learn about new native plants. What about the people who don't know their endemic species? Create signage with local animals (mission blue) to help guide them as well as ID the different routes. A good way to commute, be a tourist and learn about local animals. And a few more trees in SF won't hurt.
