What are the best ways for SFMTA to improve your transit travel time?

Muni has heard from you: in surveys and community meetings, at public hearings, via Twitter and on Yelp, and, of course, on the bus – you want better, faster and more reliable transit service in San Francisco.

As part of the Transit Effectiveness Project, SFMTA is developing travel time reduction proposals along eight Muni Rapid corridors. These engineering proposals include bus stop and roadway changes that will help Muni customers get to their destinations more quickly.

To find out more about the proposals, please see our website at www.sftep.com.

There are other programs beyond these proposals that focus on improving transit travel speeds, such as transit signal priority or all-door boarding, that aren’t covered in these proposals – but we promise, we’re working on those too.

For these proposals, up to five categories of improvements are recommended for each affected corridor:

● Traffic Signal and Stop Sign Changes
● Transit Stop Changes
● Lane Modifications
● Pedestrian Improvements
● Parking and Turn Restrictions

These changes involve trade-offs to improve your commute time: things like more walking distance, fewer parking spaces, and fewer travel lanes.

Help us to better understand your preferences for these tough choices that are needed to improve transit speeds as we develop designs in conjunction with your community.

Please indicate how you feel about speeding up Muni through some of the potential changes below.

We at the SFMTA are proposing to implement these changes and more. We are very early in the process, however, and are eager to get your feedback on how we can work with your community to reduce delays on Muni.

Learn more about the proposals at www.sftep.com and give your feedback at www.sf311.org or tweet to @MuniRapid with #ImproveSF.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to vote on these ideas and provide comments! I hope you were also able to see the details of the transit proposals online at our website or in person at one of our April workshops. Over the next month we at the SFMTA will be taking your feedback from this poll, the workshops, and other outlets such as 311 and Twitter and using it to further refine the proposals.

Once we have refined proposals, we will begin preliminary engineering and then return to the community for more input this fall. Ultimately implementation would occur towards the end of 2013 at the earliest. In the mean time, visit our website to see the details and continue to chime on with your suggestions on how we can make Muni faster and more reliable!
