My idea is to open a store which would collect clothing that is going to end up in the landfills. Local fashion and design students could recreate and up-cycle the clothing and textiles into new products that would then be for sale. Students could earn school credit in order to eliminate the need to pay them. The money made from this could go towards an educational program that would be country wide, and hopefully spread internationally. The educational program would hire teachers to travel to various schools and cities and inform the public about the destructive and detrimental effects of the clothing industry and the effects of "fast fashion" on the environment. Most people do not know how much waste goes into the landfills and what kinds of clothing can be recycled. A lack of education and knowledge on the topic seems to be a major contributor to the situation. If people knew what they could do to help, and how crucial it was to do so, they will likely be more inclined to help.
