Much of the clothing donated is not wearable due to stains and tears and wear. Harvest the usable notions and bagging them for display. Then an entry level job is sorting the fabric to type and cutting it for reuse. The next level job is DIY projects reusing the various types of fabric. Tee shirt material can be cut in a spiral fashion to create "yarn" that can be knit or crocheted into new items. Artists can be invited to brainstorm useful new items, give public workshops for others to make the items and if interesting enough have fashion shows. This basic project was created by a colleague, Janis Timm-Bottos in Canada a few years back very successfully reducing the landfill bound textiles by a huge degree.
