Upcycled: unique and functional craft goods from quilts to socks

Donated clothing is Upcycled to make unique and functional craft goods to be sold. Since clothing can come in various states, cutting a 4in X 4in square is more feasible than repurposing the entire piece of clothing.

To create a personal investment for the business, people send in clothing items and for a fee, Upcycled will transform them into something usable. If the pieces are unwanted, Upcycled sends them a picture of the transformed pieces for a sense of continuity, transparency and contribution.

For quilt making, clothing is washed, sorted into specific textiles or weights (polyester, cotton, wool etc.) and is made into specific parts of the quilts (the backing for example). After sorting, different "pure" quilts can be made (all jersey, all wool) or hybrids. Unsightly pieces will be dyed or bleached in order to become usable.

Other small items such as socks and hats can be made out of sorted out sweater material.

Upcycled sells new crafted goods made from old ones.
