I think an efficient use of such an overload of textiles is to upcycle these textiles into home insulation. Rather than using foam and other possibly carcinogenic manufactured fibers/materials towards the interior walls of homes why not shred the materials that can be broken down from the heaps of fabric, process them, and felt them into the interior structures of homes (maybe even cutting energy costs for home owners as well). I had first heard of this innovation last year in one of my fashion classes at SFSU. The idea and process is patented by Bonded Logic and mainly involves the use of denim (maybe other cotton fabrics can be integrated as well). More recently I read more about the process from the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park (since the museum is insulated with the recycled denim) and from the website HowStuffWorks. The HowStuffWorks link is below if anyone wants read more. I thinks is a plausible and possible plan of action for an overflow of clothing.
