Currently, very few products made from recycled fabrics are available to US consumers seeking erosion control sheets, fabric sheet mulch, and other geotextiles made from recycled materials. Consumers are encouraged to look for (virgin) burlap/jute/Hessian fabrics for their fabric sheet mulching and erosion control needs. Fabrics and netting made from recycled textiles could contribute more choices to consumers while reducing the amount of textiles dumped into landfill.
Recycled geotextiles could be sold by the cubic yard and marketed to farmers, landscape architects, designers, civil engineers, local and state municipal departments of public works, and state agencies like Caltrans.
Recycled fabric landscape products could support new jobs in r&d, materials collection, processing, fabrication, design, marketing, sales, and distribution. This work could contribute to further innovations in the industry and offer consumers more specialized or customized products.
