Up Cycled Textile to Decorative Pillows

Decorative pillows are used in homes, hotels, offices, schools and so many other places and can get discarded just as fast. My idea is to create up cycled decorative pillows. Large pieces of textile like table clothes or old clothing items can be cut and sewn into decorative pillows. An old cashmere sweater, a vintage motorcycle jacket or a cute printed dress can be used as textile for making throw pillows. The fabrics can be used by themselves for their texture or print or can be mixed together to create something new. Plain textile like white table clothes can be dyed or embroidered or texturized. This idea can be used to create pillow covers which can be put over pillows or be full pillows already with their own stuffing. Stuffing can also be made from shredding the excess fabric or unusable textile to create a completely recycled item.

This project is made possible by the City and County of San Francisco, SPUR, the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services and the Department of Technology
